WindchILL has been playing an integral role in the health and success of Central PA’s Hip Hop community well over a decade. Influences such as Eric B and Rakim, Boogie Down Productions, and Big Daddy Kane shine through in his content while still maintaining balance with a new school vibe revolving around beats and rhyme schemes. Through bars of honest life experience and self expression chILL really bring the listener in on a personal level that is easy to identify with.
He started out in Artists Over Industry (AOI) a local artist collective until the formation of Skies The Limit Productions (STLP) where WindchILL held the title of co-owner and head of promotions and marketing. His tenure there included the release of his first solo album ‘I Have Arrived’ (2007), 500 + shows, 9 more subsequent releases, 2 tours, 3 videos until unfortunately folding. This however left the door open for a digital distribution deal with Diamond Music Group (Brooklyn) on all future releases then segwaying into the launch of his new label First Up Records.
Most recent release ‘The Human Animal’ in conjunction with Colorado based record label Universal Language helped catapult WindchILL’s career into another level track after track of rich relatable content. With production credits to Kool G Rap, Jedi Mind Tricks, Ras Kass, Canibus, and Royce Da 5’9 and the first annual Pennsylmania Music Fest under his belt there is no disputing the health of his position in the Hip Hop community.
He is just fresh off a year full of grind mode cyphers and a west coast mid west tour windchill is back with his 6th studio album release in 10 years! With mid west Independent label Universal Language Entertainment backing him, Chill is on the heels of his new full length album 2nd Wind! This album will feature some hip hop powerhouses! I remember the first time I saw Windchill perform, I think it was at the Depot. I knew right from the get that this dude had a great lyrical skill. I know I have missed quite a few of his releases but I got to hear this latest album and overall, it was pretty good. Lyrically, Windchill is very talented. He has clever rhyme schemes and great song concepts. This latest album is just further proof of the talent he possesses. The production on here is pretty good as well. I think the standout tracks are probably “The Northeast” and “Straight Razor And Shave.” He seems to have a knack at making great songs for hip-hop culture. Great beats and great rhymes all over this one. He is definitely headed in the right direction.
OVERALL RATING: 4 out of 5 Cheesesteaks
